The Historical Image Archive of the Federal Waterways consists of recordings of German waterways over the past 150 years and currently comprises around 18,000 files. The purely digital and publicly accessible offer has existed since April 2010 under the umbrella of the Hydraulic Engineering Information Center at the Federal Institute for Hydraulic Engineering . The picture archive is mainly fed from the picture collections of the waterways and shipping administration of the federal government .
The historical picture archive is part of the IZW media archive, which is another pool that is made available to the public by the historical picture archive Internationale Mosel-Gesellschaft mbH & Moselkommission with around 800 images.
