Vidin Historical Museum

The Historical Museum of Vidin , in short "Konaka" Museum ( Bulgarian Музей "Конака"), in the Bulgarian town of Vidin was founded in 1956 in a former Ottoman official building ( Konak ) and is one of the cultural monuments of the region.

Museum building

Originally the administration building erected in the 18th century served as a police station, the central tower structure as a lighthouse . After the liberation from Ottoman rule, the building was reconstructed. Typical elements of the Bulgarian Renaissance style were incorporated. In 1956 the building was used for the first time for an exhibition on the history of weapons.

collection

The collection includes historical exhibits from the region up to the liberation from the Ottoman occupation. The museum is divided into a prehistoric section as well as sections for antiquity and the Middle Ages . The ethnographic section of the museum is located in the Krastata Kasarma .
