Krastata Kasarma
The Krastata Kasarma ( Bulgar . Кръстата казарма / the cross barracks ) is a former military facility of the Ottoman Empire , which was named after its cross-shaped construction. Due to its architecture, it is one of the cultural monuments of the region around Vidin in Bulgaria .
The facility, built by Polish architects, was completed in 1801 and housed four separate facilities with a common roof. Janissary troops were also housed on the property .
After Bulgaria was liberated from the Ottoman yoke by the Russo-Ottoman War (1877–1878) , the property was initially used as a court and to accommodate Bulgarian army troops, and is now a museum. The ethnographic department of the “Konaka” museum is housed there .
