History Television is a Canadian English-language documentary television broadcaster headquartered in Toronto , Ontario . The station focuses on historical topics of the time. The documentation includes scientific topics, military history and technology. The station is operated by Shaw Media. In addition to the English-language transmitter, a parallel transmitter in French with the name Historia is operated. The station broadcasts with a time delay between East (East Time) and West (Pacific Time). The station, which serves Canada's western coastal district, went on the air on September 1, 2006.

The station was registered as The History and Entertainment Network by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on September 4, 1996 . The operator of the station was Alliance Atlantis . It began broadcasting as History Television on October 17, 1997. On January 18, 2001, Alliance Atlantis was acquired through a joint venture between Canwest and Goldman Sachs Capital (known as CW Media) . Thus the station also belonged to CW Media.

On October 27, 2010, the station was taken over by Shaw Media. Shaw Media acquired Canwest and the shares in Goldman Sachs Capital .

Receptibility

The transmitter is fed into the digital cable network by several cable network operators. Thus it can be received almost nationwide. It can also be received via satellite through Bell TV and Shaw Direct, as well as IPTV from Bell Fibe TV, Bell Aliant TV, MTS, Optik TV and Sasktel.
