Hitoshi Matsumoto ( Japanese 松本 人 志 , Matsumoto Hitoshi ; born September 8, 1963 in Amagasaki , Japan ), known as Macchan ( 松 ち ゃ ん ), is a Japanese comedian . In Japan he is famous as the boke half of the Owarai duo Downtown next to Masatoshi Hamada . Coming from Hyogo prefecture , he speaks the Kansai dialect .

Career
Matsumoto was born in Amagasaki into a poor family. He has an older sister and an older brother, Takahiro Matsumoto ( 松本 隆博 ), a popular folk guitarist who wrote an autobiographical book called matsumoto no ani ( 松本 の d, "Matsumoto's older brother").
He attended Ushio Elementary School and graduated from Amagasaki University of Technology in 1982. Although he had a secure job in a printing company, he pursued his dream of becoming a comedian. In 1982 he was invited by Hamada to the Japanese media giant Yoshimoto Kōgyō. Together they became "Downtown" and made their debut in 1983.
As a fan of Vincent van Gogh and Anne Frank , he traveled to Amsterdam to visit the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House . The trips were filmed for Matsumoto Hitoshi no hontō ( 松 本人 志 の 本 当 , Eng . "The real Hitoshi Matsumoto"), a special NHK BS documentary series.
He parodied Tokusatsu programs several times in his program Dauntaun / Downtown no gottsu ē kanji ( ダ ウ ン タ ウ ン の ご っ つ え え 感 じ ) with characters like "Go-Renjai", "Miracle Ace" and "Aho Aho Man" and in his directorial debut "Dainipponjin" .
