Hjördis is a mythological figure from the Nordic legends, the daughter of King Eilimis. She was the second wife of Sigmund and gave birth to a son who was to become the greatest of all heroes from the Wölsungen family , namely Sigurd .

When her husband was felled by Odin in the battle against Hunding's sons and his sword Gram broke on Gungnir , the spear of the god, she carefully picked up the fragments so that her son could later dispose of them. Reginn later forges a blade from it again, with which Sigurd killed the dragon Fafnir .

Hjördis moves to King Hjalprek (German Helfrich), at whose court Sigurd grows up until he is taken care of by the aforementioned Reginn, where he learns to forge .

Hjördis himself marries Alf Hjalprekssohn, the king's son. After that, her trail is lost and she is no longer mentioned.
