Hjemsted Oldtidspark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hjemsted Oldtidspark was an archaeological open-air museum west of Skærbæk in Sønderjylland , Denmark . It existed from 1996 to 2019.

The foundation was preceded by archaeological finds , remains of a village from the Germanic Iron Age .

In addition to an underground museum building, there was a 13 hectare open-air area with reconstructed houses and farms. During the summer months, volunteers gave visitors a vivid impression of everyday life in the Iron Age. Museum educational offers such as archery or dugout canoeing invited people to take part. A restaurant offered Iron Age and Roman dishes.

On January 1, 2017, the Sønderjylland Museum Association gave up its Hjemsted location. The “Fonden Skærbækcentret” foundation initially continued to operate the amusement park under the name Hjemsted - Danernes Verden . Because the operator announced that it would no longer operate the park, the municipality sold the site to private investors in 2019. They intend to create a campsite.
