Hnjótur

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hnjótur is a local museum at the farm of the same name in Iceland .

It is off the beaten track in the Westfjords , more precisely in Patreksfjörður on Örlygshafnarvegur T612, which is the westernmost point of Europe by the Bjargtangar lighthouse .

Egill Olafsson († 1999) brought the museum's collections together. The memorabilia from two ship accidents in 1947 and 1948 on the cliffs of Látrabjarg in the area are noteworthy . The documentary film "The rescue act of Latrabjarg" (in the original Björgunarafrekið við Látrabjarg ) was made during the second rescue and is still shown by the DGzRS today.

The museum has recently been documenting the beginnings of aviation in Iceland.
