The Patreksfjörður is a fjord in the West Fjords of Iceland . It is located south of Tálknafjörður .
The Barðastrandarvegur
comes from the Kleifaheiði inside the fjord and runs for 12 km on the north bank to the town of Patreksfjörður . The town's airfield is 25 kilometers away by road on the opposite side on a sandbank. On the south bank, the Örlygshafnarvegur runs
towards Hnjótur , Látrabjarg and Bjargtangar . Another part of the south bank can be reached via the Kollsvíkurvegur
. The fjord is 6 km wide and 20 km into the country. This fjord belongs next to the Tálknafjörður and the Arnarfjörður to the south fjords of the Westfjords ( isl. Suðurfirðir Vestfjarða ).
In the inner end of Patreksfjörður the first steel ship in Iceland has been put aground and it is slowly falling to pieces.
