Hobby. The Magazin der Technik was a magazine that appeared from May 1953 to September 1991.

Hobby was published by Ehapa Verlag in Stuttgart until 1984, and from September 1984 until it was discontinued by Top Special Verlag in Hamburg , in which Ehapa and Axel Springer Verlag were equally involved at the time. Initially one issue appeared monthly, from October 1961 fortnightly.

The format was originally DIN A5, from issue 1 of 1966 a little larger. This change went hand in hand with the first price increase, the magazine now cost 1.80  DM instead of the previous 1.50 DM. In the foreword it said: We were able to enlarge the format of hobby by cleverly utilizing all printing possibilities. It indicated the total area of ​​all sides of 53,000 square centimeters, previously it was 45,000 square centimeters. With issue 22, the magazine was published in the usual magazine format from October 24, 1973.

Initially, the magazine offered handicraft and construction instructions for all kinds of things, as well as model airplanes, cars, trains and ships. Over the years, the building instructions have become more sophisticated.

An essential part were the articles about the latest achievements of the technology of the time, with their courageous, from today's perspective almost bizarre visions of the future, which were written in a future-oriented and technology-loving style. The first developments in the home computer sector were also accompanied by the magazine.

There were also collective vouchers in every issue . For a certain number you could order a so-called "Explorama" from the publisher. These were exploded and elevational drawings of technical devices in poster format (e.g. color television , the Harrier vertical take-off aircraft or the NSU-Ro80 with a rotary engine ).

In 1967 Das Große Hobby Lexikon appeared in 3 volumes from exhaust gas turbochargers to cystoscopes .

In 1964 the special Hobby Library series was launched. 31 different volumes had been published by 1972.
