The RWTH Aachen University Archive is the public archive of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Hochschule in Aachen . It is responsible for the documents (documents, photos, data, etc.) of the technical university, which opened in 1870.

The director of the archive is the chair for early modern history at RWTH, Christine Roll , managing director Klaus Graf .

The university archive was established as a central facility of the university based on a Senate resolution of 1967 on the initiative of the director of the historical institute, Hans Martin Klinkenberg , and was affiliated to this institute in 1981. It is housed in the former building of the Aachen district government at Theaterplatz 14.

The inventory of around 500 running meters consists essentially of the tradition of the rectorate and the university administration since 1870. Documents of the institutes and chairs have so far only been documented to a small extent. Apart from a photo collection, there is also the still small section of the scholars' bequests.

The use of the documents is based on the State Archives Act of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The university archive attaches particular importance to public relations and the use of new media. It was the first German-language archive to use a weblog for its news.
