The University of Applied Psychology is one of nine universities of the FHNW and one of the leading competence centers for work , organizational and business psychology in the German-speaking area. The university's concern is to make scientific psychology useful for business and society, especially for the professional world.
The focus of the university's activities is on practice-oriented and research-based training for students in applied psychology , application-oriented, interdisciplinary research, and practical and scientifically sound advanced training courses.

history
The University of Applied Psychology FHNW was founded in 2006 and started with a bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Science) in applied psychology. The Master of Science course in Applied Psychology started for the first time in 2009. The course is offered with two fields of study:
Applied research - topics of the university
Together with companies, the university realizes research and development projects in seven design and innovation fields:
- Work and health: Company health management, occupational safety, stress management
- Digital media and cooperation: Global and virtual cooperation, new media - knowledge and learning, user-centered design, social robots, usability and user experience, participation processes
- Diversity and multiperspectivity in organizations: cooperation and conflict, innovation and interprofessional cooperation, management systems, cooperation and diversity
- Suitability and personnel development: Human resources management, development of aptitude tests, ability and competence tests as well as online self-assessments
- Innovative market offers and consumption: Development and further development of products and services based on changing consumer needs
- Design of flexible work: Mobile-flexible work, innovative work and learning environments, office space design and flexible office concepts
- Reliability and safety: Safety and security, human factors, safety management in rail or air traffic as well as in power plants

The FHNW University of Applied Psychology is divided into three institutes and two educational centers:

In addition, the University of Applied Psychology FHNW operates two modern laboratories: In the usability laboratory, hardware and software products are tested for usability using scientific methods. This is also where the university's research activities are located within the framework of the FHNW Robo-Lab. In the Virtual Technologies & Innovation Lab (VTI Lab), innovative solutions for questions from practice are developed with the help of virtual technologies.
