Chassanja ( Russian Хасанья ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria in Russia with 10,829 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is located on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus , about 7 km as the crow flies south-southwest of the center of the republic capital Nalchik , in fact immediately adjacent to its southern outskirts. It is located on the right bank of the Nalchik River, which flows over the Urwan to the right Baksan tributary Cherek . To the south, Mount Isdara rises to 1,326  m .

As the largest of four villages (next to Kensche , Belaja Retschka and Adijuch ), Chassanja belongs to the urban district of Nalchik.

history

The year of foundation of the place is unknown. It has probably been inhabited mainly by the Balkars since the middle of the 15th century and was one of the Balkar villages furthest on the edge of the mountains.

From the 1920s the place belonged to the Nalschikski rajon, from its founding in 1938 to the newly created Chulamo-Besengijski rajon, until the deportation of the Balkar population of the area and the resulting dissolution of the Rajon in April 1944. After that, the place stood until the formation of the city circle Nalchik in 2005 under management of the city Soviets Nalchik, during its existence from 1975 to 1990 under administration of the Leninski Naltschiker Stadtrajons. From 1970 to 1995, Hasanja had urban-type settlement status .

The village is located on the regional road that connects Nalchik over an approximately 850  m high pass with the federal highway A154, about 12 km southeast of Chassanja in the Cherek valley, below the district center of Kashchatau .

The nearest train station is in Nalchik, with which there is a city ​​bus and shared taxi connection .
