The University of Library Sciences and Information Technologies ( Bulgarian Университет по библиотекознание и информационни технологии ) was founded on September 2, 2004 by a resolution of the Bulgarian Parliament in Sofia . It is the legal successor of the Library Science College and the State Library Science Institute , which existed since 1950.

So far (2010) the university has a faculty with the departments library sciences , information systems , social communication and general education . Both bachelor and master degrees can be obtained. The study programs comply with the Bologna rules with the credit system ( ECTS ).

The university is a member of the network of Balkan universities (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey).
