The FHNW School of Social Work is based in Olten . The university's research is intended to make social work practice current and effective, and to develop it in a future-oriented manner. With services and advice, the University of Social Work wants to optimize the professional handling of social problems and to further develop the control and design of social and organizational processes qualitatively and quantitatively.

history

On January 1, 2006, the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) started with eight subject-specific universities, including the FHNW University of Social Work. It emerged from the merger of the Aargau University of Applied Sciences (FHA), the Basel University of Applied Sciences (FHBB), the Solothurn University of Applied Sciences (FHSO), the Solothurn University of Education and the Basel School of Education and Social Work. Since January 1, 2008, the music academies of the Music Academy of the City of Basel have also been part of the FHNW. The former schools in Basel, Brugg and Olten have been bundled in the FHNW School of Social Work and merged across the different locations in specialist and thematic institutes.

Institutes

In addition to the cross-location study center for social work, six technical and thematic institutes are run. The institutes combine research, teaching and services in the following areas:

The university offers a bachelor's degree in social work (Bachelor of Arts) for the professional fields of social work and social pedagogy as well as a master's degree in social work (Master of Arts) with a focus on social innovation.

Research in social work develops knowledge about social problems and how to deal with them with a view to promoting, maintaining or restoring a self-determined lifestyle. The research and development activities of the FHNW School of Social Work include

  • the investigation of the processing of problem situations by social work and social work organizations as well as
  • Cooperative development work with practice with the aim of making their offers current and effective, as well as developing and innovating them in a future-oriented manner.
