Wedding prelude

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wedding prelude is a composition by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 469). It was performed for the first time on February 27, 1896 in the church of the German Order of Knights in Vienna under the direction of Eduard Strauss .

Remarks

The work was written on the occasion of the wedding of Johann Strauss' stepdaughter, who was born in 1875, Alice (daughter of Adele Strauss), with the painter Franz von Bayros and played on this occasion in the church of the German Knight Order. In the original form it is a work for violin, organ and harp. Eduard Strauss then performed the work in this version on November 29, 1896 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein . In 1963 Fritz Racek brought out a new edition of the work, which was based on the composer's manuscript. The work may not have been played all too often.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 20 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
