As a wedding requests a traditional is North German tradition referred to, in which the guests by one or more of the wedding couple specific person (s) to the wedding party are invited. The guests are visited by the wedding bitters at home unannounced in order to deliver the invitation personally. There are similar customs in other regions (see Wedding Loader ).

The wedding bitters traditionally dress in tails and top hats . Colorfully decorated bicycles are usually used to get to the guests. In addition, the future wedding couple will hand over a walking stick to which each invited guest should attach a cloth ribbon. This hanging stick will be handed over to the wedding couple on the day of the wedding celebration as proof of the invitations sent. When the guests to be invited have arrived, the invitation is brought to the front door in the form of a poem. In order to be prepared for the hardships of the rest of the way, the wedding bitters are usually given one or more mostly alcoholic drinks on site. The type and amount is determined by the person invited. The wedding bitters have no right to vote ("what is served on the table is drunk"). During the visit, the wedding bitters get one or more banknotes that are attached to the cylinder. The money raised is mostly used to help finance a stag / hen farewell. Often the wedding bitters tell the guests about their trip and the events on the day of the wedding celebration.
