Ashgabat Wedding Palace

The Ashgabat Wedding Palace ( Turkmen Bagt Köşgi ) in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat was completed in 2011. Weddings can be celebrated here or formally registered with the authorities.

location

The building is located away from the city center in the southwest of Ashgabat. The Ashgabat Stadium , the Ýyldyz Hotel and a golf course are in the immediate vicinity . The building is surrounded by a roundabout.

Building history

Work on the Wedding Palace began in 2009 with the aim of completing the building for the 20th anniversary of Turkmen independence in 2011. The Turkish construction company Polimeks was commissioned to implement the construction project . The opening on November 1, 2011 was attended by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow , who planted a symbolic tree during the opening ceremony.

architecture

The lower part of the palace is divided into three levels, each of which, viewed from above, represents an octagonal star. The upper part consists of a golden globe with a diameter of 32 meters that shows the outline of Turkmenistan. The globe is adorned with an octagonal star on each side. Both in the lower part of the building and in the upper part there are five floors, in addition there is a parking deck below the building. There are entrances on all four sides of the palace, the surrounding area is designed with green areas, flagpoles, water features and spacious paved areas.

Inside there are three large wedding halls on the ground floor with capacities of 500 and 1000 people. There are also a few hotel rooms and several shops that offer everything to do with weddings. On the first floor there are eleven much smaller halls and a cafeteria. On the second floor there are seven dining rooms with different capacities. The registration authorities are located on the third floor, with additional offices on the floor above. The upper part of the building within the sphere is the most luxurious part of the building, here there is another wedding hall, the so-called Baht Pavilion, which is particularly lavishly furnished.

Trivia

One expression of the personality cult around the Turkmen President Berdimuhamedow is the fact that the couples who want to get married in the wedding palace have to take their wedding photo in front of a portrait of the president.
