The Ashgabat Stadium ( Turkmen Ashgabat Stadiony ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat . There are 20,000 seats in the stands. After two years of construction, it was inaugurated in 2011 to mark the 20th anniversary of the country's independence from the Soviet Union . Despite its rectangular shape with no curves behind the goals, the stadium has an athletics facility. It is the home ground of the football clubs FC Aşgabat , Altyn Asyr FK and Ahal FK in the Ýokary League .
The stadium project was built on an area of 380,000 square meters in the south-west of Ashgabat. In addition to the stadium, there is a hotel for 2,000 guests, five soccer fields with different surfaces, two running tracks and four tennis courts on the site. The stadium has indoor courts for tennis , volleyball , basketball , badminton , bowling and boxing .
