Courtyard of the St. George Rifle Brotherhood
The court of the St. George Rifle Brotherhood was built in Gdansk 1487-1494 on the coal market next to the Langgasser Gate by Hans Glothau . The Gothic two-storey brick building on a square floor plan was given a new roof in 1566 with the figure of St. George slaying the dragon.
The Gdańsk Rifle Society was founded in the Middle Ages. In 1411 their statutes were written. It existed until 1798.
After the dissolution of the Schützenbruderschaft, the building was taken over by the city authorities, the main station was set up on the ground floor and an art school was set up on the upper floor. At the end of the nineteenth century, the building was renovated and restored to its original appearance. 1950–1953 the war damage was repaired. The house now houses the headquarters of the local branch of the Polish Association of Architects SARP.
