The cheese dairy Champignon Hofmeister is a group of companies in the dairy industry in Bavaria, in the Federal Republic of Germany. The head office is in Heising, a district of Lauben near Kempten . The main company, the Champignon cheese dairy, was founded in 1908 by the cheese maker Julius Hirschle and the cheese merchant Leopold Immler.
history
The first brand product of the dairy industry in West Germany ever had Champignon - Camembert . In 1961 the brothers Josef and Georg Hofmeister took over the cheese dairy. The group is still family-owned to this day. In 1980 the company launched the blue cheese Cambozola . Another well-known product is rougette , a soft cheese with red mold .
Hofmeister-Champignon today has an annual turnover of around 500 million euros ( consolidated around 360 million euros) and employs around 1,000 people. The products are exported to 55 countries, the export share is 45%. Today, around 423 million kilograms of milk and 568 million kilograms of whey are processed each year (as of 2007).

The Hainichen-Freiberg GmbH & Co. KG dairy in Freiberg is a 50% joint venture with Ehrmann AG . It specializes in the production of Camembert cheese and is the market leader in this segment in Saxony.
