Hoger (Abbot)

Hoger († 906 ) was abbot of the monasteries Werden and Helmstedt from 898 to 902 .

Abbot Hoger secured the Herzfeld farm with the grave of St. Ida von Herzfeld , a relative of Charlemagne , by swapping Duke Otto von Sachsen .

The learned abbot is awarded the work Musica enchiriadis from the late 9th century, in which the transition from one-part Gregorian chant to polyphony is documented for the first time in European music history.
