In 1995 the German Mountain Running Championships were held as part of this event. For this reason, the original route had already been changed a year before, starting in Beuren, in order to meet the requirements of the German Athletics Association . Since then, a route length of 9.3 kilometers has been about 500 meters uphill and 100 meters downhill.

In 1998, 2004, 2009, 2011 and 2016, the Baden-Württemberg mountain running championships took place on the route. In 2006, the German Mountain Running Senior Championships were held in Beuren as part of the Hohenneuffen Mountain Run.

Route

The start has been in the neighboring town of Linsenhofen, 354 meters above sea level , since 1994 . The first section leads on asphalt paths through orchards and the Beurener district Balzholz and is characterized by a wavy profile with three short, steep climbs. After a supply point at kilometer 4, the first longer climb follows (120 meters in altitude per kilometer). From kilometer 5 the route runs on gravel forest paths with a slightly undulating profile. The longest climb (150 meters in altitude over 1.2 kilometers) up the Albtrauf begins at kilometer 7 . Before the steep final ascent (130 meters in altitude over 0.8 kilometers), the Hohenneuffen has to be circled once on a gentle slope. The goal is the Hohenneuffen castle courtyard at an altitude of 740 meters.
