The Hohnhorstsee is a lake in the northeast of the city of Lehrte in the Hanover region .
geography
The lake is located on the northeast outskirts of Lehrte on the A2 . The Lehrter See Süd service area is located between the motorway and the lake . The lake is located on the edge of the Lehrte city park and forms its northern end. To the west of the lake are two small islands.
history
The lake was created in the mid-1930s through gravel mining to build the motorway. According to its origin, the body of water was called the Autobahnsee until the 1950s . At that time the lake was used as a bathing lake in summer. The Hotel Halves motorway service station was located on the eastern shore of the lake until 1980 .
use
The city park, the lake and the nearby Hohnhorster Forest serve as a local recreation area. Rowing and pedal boating are possible on the lake . There is a restaurant on the lake, a model building club also uses the lake and maintains a clubhouse on the south bank. In winter, the lake is used as an ice rink when the weather is good.
