Hokke-shu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hokke-shū ( Japanese 法 華 宗 ) means 'lotus school' and denotes schools of Buddhism in Japan based on the lotus sutra , i. H. the Tendai-shū ( 天台 法 華 宗 , Tendai Hokke-shū ), as well as the schools of Nichiren Buddhism ( 日 蓮 法 華 宗 , Nichiren Hokke-shū ). In particular, the term also denotes the currents Honmon-ryū ( 本 門 流 ), Shinmon-ryū ( 真 門 流 ) and Jinmon-ryū ( 陣 門 流 ) within Nichiren Buddhism .

Buddhist schools such as the Kempon Hokke-shū or Honmon Hokke-shū or even the lay organization of the Nichiren-Shōshū , the Hokkekō , have this name in their name. This designation is therefore not to be understood as subsidiary to the Nichiren-shū (Nichiren school).
