Holthe first appeared at the World Cup in Stockholm in 1897 . He took sixth and last place there. It should be his only World Cup participation. He was more successful in both of his European championships. In 1898 in Trondheim he won the bronze medal behind Ulrich Salchow and his compatriot Johan Lefstad . In 1900 in Berlin he was able to defeat Lefstad and won bronze again, this time behind Salchow and Gustav Hügel . Holthe then only took part in national championships. He won these in the years 1901 to 1903 and 1905 to 1906. He later trained Sonja Henie .
