The Holy Trinity Church is an Episcopal church building in the Scottish town of Ayr in South Ayrshire . In 1971 the building was listed in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A. The church is still in use today.

history

The first episcopal church building in Ayr was built in 1839 on the site of today's church. Due to the steadily growing community, it was expanded in 1852; eight years later a school was added. After the building, which had already been expanded, proved to be too small again in the 1880s, it was decided to build a new one at the same location. John Loughborough Pearson , who became famous for numerous new neo-Gothic church buildings, was commissioned as architect; the church remained his only project in Scotland. After the foundation stone was laid in 1887, construction dragged on and the church could not be completed until Pearson's death (1897). John Pearson's son Frank completed construction in 1900. After all debts had been paid off, the Holy Trinity Church was consecrated in 1908.
