Holzhofkaserne

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Holzhof barracks was located in the 4th district of Vienna, Wieden, at Favoritenstraße 26 and Waltergasse 2 and housed the kk military vehicle depot.

The origins of the building go back to the construction of the “ Favorita ”, which began in 1615 . After various uses, part of the building complex was used for military purposes. After appropriate adaptations, the haulage was moved here. After a further renovation in 1790, 110 men and 55 horses as well as saddlery, blacksmithing and wagner workshops could be accommodated here. During this time, the name "Holzhofkaserne" became established. In the course of the barracks transaction of the Austro-Hungarian Army , the barracks were demolished around 1900 and residential buildings were built in their place.

Adjacent to the Holzhofkaserne in Favoritenstrasse 24, the kk Sappeurkaserne had been located since 1790, and after its relocation to the suburb of Laimgrube in 1794 the staff of the kk Fuhrwesencorps.
