Honda EXP-2
The Honda EXP-2 is an experimental off-road motorcycle and technology platform from the Japanese manufacturer Honda from 1995.
In order to reduce the emissions of the two-stroke engine , Honda developed the "ARC-System" (Activated Radical Combustion). Honda assumed that over 50 percent of the power range could be managed without a controlled ignition. A variably controlled exhaust valve and fuel injection in conjunction with a modified combustion chamber design ensured auto-ignition, as in a diesel engine, with the throttle valve slightly open; with the throttle valve wide open, the ignition was conventionally initiated via the spark plug . The engine with 402 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke: 80 × 80 mm) developed 40 kW (54 HP ) at 7000 rpm and helped the 155 kg off-road machine to a top speed of 169 km / h.
The bike was ridden by Jean Brucy in the Dakar Rally (5th place) and Bruce Ogilvie in the Baja 1000 (7th place) in 1995 .
