Hondarribi Zuri

Hondarribi Zuri is a white , indigenous grape variety from the Basque Country . It is also found in the regions of Cantabria and Castile and Leon . Hondarribi refers to the city of Hondarribia and zuri means "white" in Basque .

The berries are small, round and golden yellow. A light yellow wine with aromas of citrus fruits, juicy, ripe fruits and herbs can be produced from this. Its floral character is also typical. The wines should be drunk young, single-varietal wines are rarely found. The Hondarribi Zuri is blended as a cuvée with Sauvignon Blanc , which strengthens its own character, Chardonnay , which makes it fuller and fuller, but also has a longer shelf life, or with Folle Blanche .

Synonyms of Hondarribi Zuri are Hondarr a bi Zuri, Hondarr o bi Zuri, Ondarrabi Txuri, Ondarabiya Ziriya, Txuri, Zuri, Zuria, Oundanabi. It is often used in the Denomination of Origin of Txacoli Guetaria and also in Txakoli .

There is also a red variety called Ondarrabi Beltza , which is currently not approved for wine production.
