The hook-and-ladder-truck (German: Haken- und Leiter-LKW), later also referred to as the service ladder or service truck , was a special vehicle of the fire department in the United States .

The hook-and-ladder-truck was specially designed for the transport of hook and Anstelleitern and pike were built. The ladders were on shelves on the vehicle and pulled out from the rear. The wheelbase of the vehicle was usually more than 6 meters. The hook-and-ladder truck became superfluous when the portable ladders began to be loaded onto aerial ladders (similar to turntable ladders ). Individual vehicles are still in active service.
