Hormizd I.
Hormizd I. ( Persian هرمز Hormoz [ horˈmoz ]; † 273) was a son of Shapur I and from 270 (or 272?) To 273 Great King of the Sassanid Empire .
During the conquest of Armenia , of which he was raised to king around 252, he acquired military fame, which may have been one of the reasons that his father made him crown prince, although Hormizd was only his third eldest son. He also did a great job on his father's campaigns against the Romans and probably also commanded his own troop contingents. After Shapur's death (probably 270 rather than 272) he succeeded him as great king. Although little is known in fact about his short reign, he was a promoter of Zoroastrianism in the field of religious policy . So he also promoted Kartir's career . Nevertheless, he was tolerant of Mani and his followers.

Remarks
- ↑ In more recent research, 270 is often assumed to be the year of Shapur's death instead of 272, see Josef Wiesehöfer: Das Reich der Sāsāniden . In: Klaus-Peter Johne (Ed.): The time of the soldiers' emperors . Vol. 1 (of 2). Berlin 2008, p. 531ff., Here p. 541.
