Klaus-Peter Johne

Klaus-Peter Johne (born December 27, 1941 in Jena ) is a German ancient historian .

From 1960 to 1965 Klaus-Peter Johne studied Classical Philology at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Academic teachers included Ludger Alscher , Willi Göber , Werner Hartke , Wilhelm Hartke , Johannes Irmscher , Heinrich Junker , Johannes Schneider , Rudolf Schottlaender , Wolfgang Seyfarth , Marie Simon , Elisabeth Charlotte Welskopf and Wolfgang Wiefel. Then he was a research assistant until 1991, at times also a managing assistant, in the area of ​​Greco-Roman history at the Academy of Sciences and what later became the Central Institute for Ancient History and Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Berlin . Most recently, he was research group leader “Roman History and Latin Corpora”. In 1971 he received his doctorate on studies on the dating and social origin of the Historia Augusta under Wolfgang Seyfarth , further reviewers were Werner Hartke and Johannes Irmscher. In 1981 he received his doctorate B with the work inspired by Heinz Kreißig, The Colonies in Italy and the Western Provinces of the Roman Empire , and in 1987 he received his teaching qualification. From 1988 to 1992 Johne was an honorary lecturer at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , and from 1991/92 he was also a guest lecturer at the University of Hamburg . In 1992, alongside Wilfried Nippel , Johne was appointed professor of ancient history at Humboldt University with a focus on Roman history. In 2007 he retired, but continued to teach until 2009. Johnes successor was Aloys Winterling .

From 1965 to 1998 Johne worked on the Prosopographia Imperii Romani , from 1987 to 1998 he was co-editor of the series. He also worked on other academy projects such as “The Romans on the Rhine and Danube”, “The History of Scientific Thought in Antiquity”, “Introduction to Classical Classical Studies” and “Sources on the Early History of Central Europe”. He primarily deals with Roman historiography, in particular the Historia Augusta , for which he is considered an internationally respected expert, the colonies in Italy and the western provinces of the Roman Empire, the Romans on the Elbe and the time of the soldier emperors .
