Hornesfeltet and Solbergfeltet
Hornesfeltet and Solbergfeltet are neighboring Bronze Age rock carvings near Skjeberg in Sarpsborg in Viken in Norway , near the border with Sweden .
Hornesfeltet
In Hornesfeltet, to the east and near Riksveg 110, 21 pictures of ships have been carved almost in the keel line, 15 groups of bowls and a large male figure in an almost vertical rock outcrop ( location ). The largest ship is almost three meters long. The boats have a hull and vertical lines that represent the crew of the oceangoing vessels.
Solbergfeltet
To the west of the E 6, at the exit of the marked “Oldtidsveien”, lies Solbergfeltet with two outcrop areas with incisions ( location ). The field near the road has around 60 different images, including ships, people, and bowls. The second field is special in that it contains, among other things, a tree motif that is rare in Norway. According to the Norwegian archaeologist Erling Johansen (1919-2000), the Solbergfeld could have been a cult center of the Bronze Age.
