Maria Assunta Nagl

Maria Assunta Nagl (born April 6, 1871 in Vienna ; † September 3, 1944 in Gmunden ) was an Austrian ancient historian .

Life

Maria Assunta Nagl worked as a librarian (at the library of the Catholic Reading Association for all stands) and a publicist in Vienna. She studied Classical Philology and Ancient History and between 1908 and 1913 became Dr. phil. PhD . Her research focus was the history of late antiquity , on which she published many monographs and articles. She has contributed to Pauly's real encyclopedia of classical antiquity (RE) and literature reports on the history and historiography of late antiquity in the annual report on the progress of classical antiquity . She also took part in the preparatory work for Prosopographia Imperii Romani (PIR²).

Her journalistic work was mainly focused on the Catholic women's movement, in which she was involved all her life. She was a board member of the Catholic Women's Organization for Lower Austria and the Catholic Reich Women's Organization of Austria. She was also a member of the Görres Society . From 1918 she gave the Austrian Women's World. Monthly magazine for educated women , from 1924 she was editor of the daily newspaper Reichspost .
