The Horror Rock (from English horror 'horror, horror, horror' ) is a cliff rock in the archipelago of South Georgia . It is 5.5 km west of the South West Point of Annenkov Island .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1961 after the circumstances under which it was discovered on February 21, 1961 by the crew of the research vessel HMS Owen , who barely managed to avoid a collision in heavy seas and poor visibility.
