Horror shocker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The comic magazine Hammerharte Horrorschocker , for short mostly horror shockers, has been published as a horror comic anthology by Weissblech Comics since 2004 . The first six issues appeared every two months, and since the seventh issue the series has appeared three to four times a year. Each issue contains two to five short stories with a length of three to twenty pages.

Framework story

In the style of classic American horror comic series like Tales from the Crypt , each issue is presented on a splash page by a narrator. This is Charon , the ferryman across the Styx , who, according to the framework of the series, tells the stories of the deceased. It also appears in the magazine at the beginning and end of some episodes and from issue 4 is the focus of the series Stories from the Black River , which is published in the magazine at irregular intervals. The page with announcements and letters playing with her titles ... on the Styx ... depends.

Minor series and other publications

In addition to the regular series, Weissblech Comics published:

  • Horrorschocker anthology (2005, compilation of unsold copies of the first editions of issues 1–3)
  • Horrorschocker Extra-Album (three issues, 2006–2008)
  • Horror shocker Grusel Gigant (since November 2016), reprint of out of print comics
  • Free issues as part of the free comic day and the WC-Mini reading sample series
  • An app for the iPad

Authors and draughtsmen

A special feature of the series is that the stories are produced almost exclusively by German-speaking comic artists and authors. The editor of the series Levin Kurio is particularly well represented both as an author and as a draftsman . Only the Extra Album 2 brought license material from the Scottish publisher Rough Cut Comics with Der Chirurg . Some of the stories were also (partly previously) published in English-language heavy metal magazine, but come from German-speaking artists. Mention should be made here of Mutterliebe (OT: A Mother's Love ) by Josef Rother (text) and Eckart Breitschuh (drawing) in issue 6 as well as Rabizus Reich by Levin Kurio (text) and Klaus Scherwinski (drawings). In the latter case, however, it is not a translated licensed work, the story first appeared in Horrorschocker 13 in April 2007 and in Heavy Metal magazine in September 2008 .
