Horst Hübner (sociologist)

Horst Hübner (* 1952 ) is a German sports sociologist and university professor.

Life

Hübner studied sports science, social science and education from 1971 to 1978. In 1982 he obtained his doctorate at the Westphalian Wilhelms University (WWU) in Münster , and in 1983 he completed his second state examination for teaching at grammar schools.

From 1983 to 1989 he worked as a university assistant at the WWU Münster, and from 1989 to 1991 he was a substitute professor in Münster and Berlin . Until 1995, Hübner worked as a lecturer in the sports science department at the University of Münster and in 1995 took up a professorship in sports science (sports sociology) at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . During his tenure in Wuppertal, Hübner also held functions as vice dean and dean and was a member of the faculty council and specialist spokesman. In the German University Association he was the spokesman for the Wuppertal association group for 20 years.

Hübner's main research areas included sports development planning and, in particular, the further development of sports and sports facility infrastructure. In addition, he carried out research in the field of school sports, especially on the topic of promoting safety.

In December 2018, Hübner was honored for his life's work in sports science as part of the award of the State Prize "Sport and Science" from the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .
