Horst Schmidbauer (politician)

Horst Schmidbauer (born March 3, 1940 in Nuremberg ) is a German politician . From December 20, 1990 to 2005 , he was a member of the German Bundestag as a politician of the SPD for four electoral terms , where he was particularly active in health policy .

Career

Schmidbauer completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk after attending elementary school and commercial school . In 1956 he joined the SPD and was involved with the Jusos , for which he was the district council chairman. In 1972 he was elected to the Nuremberg City Council for the first time. He belonged to this until 1990 with a focus on health as well as housing and urban development.

Schmidbauer stood for the first time for the SPD in the 1990 federal election and was elected from the SPD's state list in Bavaria . In the 1998 general election , he won the first mandate in the Nuremberg-South constituency with 48% of the vote . From 1993 to 1994 he was represented as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the committee of inquiry into "HIV infections through blood and blood products". Later he was a full member of the Committee on Health and Social Security and a deputy member of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment.

Schmidbauer has been a board member of the Humanitarian Aid Foundation for people infected with HIV through blood products since 2006 . Until then he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In this function he was followed by Christian Kleiminger (SPD), member of the Bundestag in Rostock .
