Life and work

After graduating from the Graf-Stauffenberg-Gymnasium in Osnabrück in 1985 , Kleiminger completed an apprenticeship as a banker at what was then the union bank, Bank für Gemeinwirtschaft (BfG). He then began studying law in 1987 , which he completed in 1994 with the first state examination in law. Kleiminger then completed his legal clerkship in the district of the Rostock Higher Regional Court . After passing the second state examination in 1996, he settled in Rostock as an independent lawyer .

Political party

Kleiminger became a member of the SPD as a schoolboy in 1983. From January 2005 he was a member of the board of the SPD district association Rostock, since February 28, 2009 as district chairman. After the defeat as a direct candidate in the 2009 Bundestag election, he resigned from his posts on election evening. On February 15, 2008, Kleiminger was elected as a member of the board of the Forum Democratic Left 21 in Berlin . He is co-editor of the horizonte , magazine for social democratic politics in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

MP

Christian Kleiminger won the direct mandate in the Rostock Bundestag constituency in the 2005 Bundestag election with 37.7% of the first votes and thus represented it in the Bundestag from 2005 to 2009 . He belonged to the parliamentary left in the SPD parliamentary group.

As a representative of the German Bundestag, Kleiminger was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Federal Foundation “Humanitarian Aid for People HIV-Infected through Blood Products” on November 15, 2006 in Bonn .

As a member of the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA), he took part in the elections to the Russian State Duma on December 2, 2007 as an observer . He then told the media that the parliamentary elections were unfair, referring to the economic and personal superiority of the “ United Russia ” party, which was influenced by President Vladimir Putin , as the opposition had no real chance.

In the 2009 Bundestag elections , as a direct candidate in the Rostock constituency, he received 19.7% of the first votes, finishing in third place behind the candidates from the left and the CDU and thus failing to make it back into the Bundestag. This was preceded by a call by the former SPD member of the Bundestag for Rostock, Christine Lucyga , not to elect her successor, Kleiminger. A few days before the election, Kleiminger tried to use posters all over Rostock to suggest that the Greens would vote for him as a direct candidate and that Green voters should also give Kleiminger the first vote. The Greens knew nothing about this campaign in advance and decidedly rejected the statement made by the posters.

In the 2013 federal election he ran again as a direct candidate in the expanded Rostock constituency - Rostock II district.

Kleiminger has been chairman of the Rostock District Association of Workers' Welfare (AWO) since 2002 . After Kleiminger was threatened by right-wing extremist youths in Rostock in 2007 on the sidelines of an NPD demonstration, which led to a small request in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament, an attack on his Rostock constituency office took place on the night of June 24, 2008.
