Clumpy growing blue Schmiele ( Deschampsia caerulea ) in winter

In botany, a plant growth form is called a Horst , in which many shoots of a plant are close to each other. Such tufts of shoots arise when the lowest axillary buds outgrow without runners being formed. The side shoots are also mostly upright. The formation of clumps is characteristic of many sweet and sour grasses . Particularly large clumps that grow in height over time are also called bulten .
