history

The acceptance of the trouser suit has changed dramatically over the past decades:

  • Marlene Dietrich made the trouser suit socially acceptable in the 1930s.
  • Lenelotte von Bothmer ( SPD ) sparked a scandal in 1970 because she was the first woman to give a speech in the Bundestag in a trouser suit .
  • Chancellor Angela Merkel appears almost exclusively in a trouser suit. While on the one hand this is valued as "style-forming", on the other hand it attracts ridicule and is even described in cabaret as "the trouser suit" or "federal trouser suit".
  • Even Hillary Clinton often occurs in the pantsuit.
