Hokutoumi Nobuyoshi , Japanese 北 勝 海 信 芳 ; * July 22, 1963 in Hiroo , Hokkaido Prefecture as Hoshi Nobuyoshi ( 保 志 延 芳 ) is a former successful sumo wrestler and the 61st yokozuna .

He began his career in March 1979, rose four years later to the juryo division and six months later to the makuuchi division. He quickly established himself in the upper echelons and was named Ōzeki after the tournament in Nagoya in 1986 (he won his first tournament in March) . At first he fought under his real name Hoshi, now he started as Hokutoumi. A year later he even got the yokozuna promotion. Only now has he reached his full form, he and his stable colleague Chiyonofuji dominated sumo events for the next few years. However, he never got out of its shadow. Nevertheless, he had a total of eight tournament victories. In July 1989 he competed in a playoff against Chiyonofuji for the tournament victory, which was a first, as for the first time ever two yokozuna of the same heya competed against each other in such a playoff . He won his last tournament in March 1991. Then things went downhill: if he had been injured before, things got worse and worse. After a 9-6 in Nagoya that was weak for a yokozuna, he was barely able to play a tournament and finally resigned in May 1992. Today he runs his own heya of the same name as Hakkaku Oyakata and has brought the Rikishi Kaiho and Hokutoriki to the Makuuchi Division.

Most often he won with oshidashi and similar techniques. However, he could act just as well using yotsu sumo techniques.
