Hospital (Ireland)
Hospital ( Irish : An tOspidéal ) is a town in County Limerick in the central southern interior of the Republic of Ireland .
history
A possible derivation for the name of the place goes back to the Order of Malta (via English: Knights Hospitaller ), who built an archaeologically important cathedral here in 1215 . This cathedral houses the remains of three grave sites (Engl. Tomb ) from the 13th and 14th centuries.
geography
Hospital is located in the east of County Limerick on the border of County Tipperary , 25 km south-southwest of Limerick City and 21 km west of the town of Tipperary , and had the Census 2016 population of 653 people.
The place is located at the junction of the regional roads R516 and R513 - Old Cork Road - from Limerick City to Mitchelstown and has a number of outlets and other businesses.
