Hot seat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hot seat is a method of playing computer games with multiple people, even when only one computer is available.

The computer usually only displays the data and parts of the card that are known to the player concerned. The other players meanwhile maintain discretion and look the other way. This method is particularly suitable for turn-based strategy games in which a move takes only a little time.

Prominent representatives of games that use this method are e.g. B. (in chronological order): Empire (1977), Kaiser (1984), The Perfect General (1991), die Panzer-General -Reihe (1994), Heroes of Might and Magic (1995), Master of Orion 2 (1996 ) and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (1999).

In addition to this variant, there are still open hot seat systems in which each player can see the move of the other. Among other things, Worms uses an open process. This variant exists in some racing games , but this increases the waiting time for the other players and requires a lot of patience from the other players.

Games with a hot seat mode can usually be played very simply by saving and sending the game status as an e-mail game .
