The hotel was built around 1890 on Neue Fuhrstrasse 1/3 , its owner was E. Osterwald. The Hotel Europäische Hof and the Hotel Kaiserhof , both in the immediate vicinity of the Reichsbahndirektion Elberfeld (later the Federal Railway Directorate ) and the Elberfeld railway station (now Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof ), were the leading addresses for overnight stays in the city of Elberfeld. The hotel address book for the German Empire from 1928 listed the hotel as the “best-known house of the first rank, opposite the main train station. Largest privately owned house. All rooms have hot and cold running water and state telephones. Room with private bathroom. Own car hall and boxes with petrol station. ” The hotel had sixty beds and a well-run restaurant.

In the air raid on Elberfeld in 1943 , the street on Neue Fuhrstrasse with the Hotel Europäische Hof was destroyed. In contrast to the neighboring imperial court , the European court was not rebuilt.
