history

The client was Johann Wilhelm Brisken. He had the daughter of his teacher Dr. Roberti married and later took over his pharmacy. He had an old building called "Böhmers's" house demolished and the new building erected for it.

The building was erected in 1746, even if the inscription reads “ANNO 1749 DEN 28. JVNY”. It is a plastered half-timbered gable house with protruding storeys and a crooked hip roof.

Brisken and his descendants were repeatedly granted the privilege of court and state pharmacists by the electoral and subsequent governments until 1817. His son Franz Brisken was also mayor of Arnsberg several times.

The building was badly damaged by the great city fire in 1799, but was restored in 1800. In this context, Franz Brisken had a laboratory set up with a cross vault . The son Willibald Brisken moved the pharmacy to the old market.

As a result, the brewer and baker Johann Gaudenz Höynck acquired the former pharmacy building. He set up a brewery there. The brewing kettle stood in the former laboratory. After his death, the house came to the baker and innkeeper Clemens Reiter. After the founding of the empire in 1871, he had the facade redesigned with simple ashlar plaster. An imperial crown and the inscription "Hotel zur Krone" were placed on the front. In 1926 the western annex was added. It served as a restaurant until 1989, after which it stood empty for years.

The building, which has been a listed building since 1983, was acquired by the city of Arnsberg in 2005. Since 2006 it has been converted into the musical education center of the Hochsauerlandkreis and thus into the seat of the music school of the district with the use of considerable financial resources. A setback occurred on the night of January 16-17, 2008, when the new roof structure of the building was destroyed by a fire, possibly arson, and also damaged the entire building. The training center was only inaugurated in June 2009.

The house was Monument of the Month in April 2010 of the Working Group on Historic Town Centers in North Rhine-Westphalia.
