Janne Grönvall (born July 17, 1973 in Rauma ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player and current coach .

Career

Janne Grönvall began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth division of Lukko Rauma , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 1989/90 season , where he remained unpunished in five games. In the following season, his first full professional ice hockey game, the defender scored two goals in 40 games and made eight assists, whereupon he was named Rookie of the Year . In the summer of 1992, the junior international moved to Lukko's league rivals Tappara Tampere , for whom he was on the ice for the next two years before he was ordered to North America by the Toronto Maple Leafs towards the end of the 1993/94 season , which he had previously done in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as the 101st player selected. In his two years in the Toronto franchise , however, he ran exclusively for its farm team from the American Hockey League , the St. John's Maple Leafs .

In the summer of 1996 Grönvall returned to his Finnish homeland, where he spent the following seven seasons at his ex-club Tappara Tampere. With Tappara, the left-handed shooter won the Finnish championship for the first time in the 2002/03 season , after failing with his team in the playoff finals in the previous two years. After this success he signed with Färjestad BK from the Swedish Elitserien , with whom he was twice runner-up in two seasons. The Finn and his team were inferior to the HV71 and then the Frölunda HC . He then returned to Tampere for the third time to Tappara, where he played until 2009. For the 2009/10 season he was signed by the Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League . In 45 games he prepared seven goals for Krefeld. He then ended his active career.

Since the 2011/12 season Grönvall has been assistant coach for the U20 juniors at Tappara Tampere.
