The Houlton Branch Railroad is a former railway company in Maine ( United States ). The St. Andrews and Quebec Railway (SAQ) had built a railway line from the port of St. Andrews in New Brunswick to the north parallel to the state border with Maine and wanted to connect the city of Houlton to this line. On February 6, 1867, the Houlton Branch Railroad was founded in the United States and built the approximately 5 km long section from Houlton to the border. The line was opened in 1870. From the beginning, the Houlton Branch Railroad was a subsidiary of the SAQ, which was bought by the New Brunswick and Canada Railway (NBCR) in 1879 .

On June 28, 1873, NBCR first leased the railway. This contract went on July 1, 1882 to the New Brunswick Railway , which was leased to July 1, 1890 even by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). This company also took over the contract with the Houlton Branch Railroad.

In 1893 the city of Houlton also received a railway connection from the US, namely through the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad . The Debec Junction – Houlton railway has been closed since 1989.
