Housekeeping (IT)

Under Housekeeping refers to routine activities whose goal is the function and performance of IT - system to obtain. Housekeeping takes place independently of the occasion and ideally without human intervention at regular intervals. It differs significantly from the maintenance activity . Modern operating systems or distributions always contain a number of housekeeping tasks.

Typical housekeeping activities

• Defragmenting file systems and checking for errors
• Shortening or deletion of log files
• Delete temporary files
